High-flying BMX Team Strike Silver

A team of 21 BMX riders from Hackney in years 2 to 13 have won the silver team medal at the London Youth Games. The annual Games is the largest youth sports event in Europe. The Hackney team took the second spot against stiff competition from 27 other London boroughs at Merton's BMX track on Saturday 07 June.

Amiyah, aged 10, from Stoke Newington said: 'I train with the Hackney BMX Club and it was my first race. I felt really excited about my race but also a bit nervous because all the other girls that I was competing against were older than me. But after I did the race I was really happy because it was really fun and it was a good experience."

Club Chair and coach Stephen Downs took the team to the Games. The De Beauvoir resident said: 'We are over the moon to get second place this year. We had a good number of new riders competing at their first race day, who where all amazing. Alongside them we had a solid group of long term club riders, who always put everything into their race day performance.'
